Organizing Basement Storage:
- The most important thing to do
in the basement is to store all chemicals and valuable
items on shelves or tables above flood level. Even
if you don't live near water and no threat of serious
flooding is present in your geographic location, water,
especially from heavy rain, can make your basement
a mud basin and a safety hazard. Being organized beforehand
can lessen the impact of any such disaster. Clear out
the space around the furnace, water-heater, major appliances,
pipes, and drains. Be particularly mindful of flammable
and heat-sensitive items, as well as any valuables
that may suffer beneath a burst pipe.
- Another reason to avoid storing
chemicals and valuables at a low level is safety; they
should be inaccessible to young children.
- Store heavy bins at the bottom
of the shelving unit, lighter ones on top.
- Store like items together in bins.
- Label bins, use large font for
easy view.
- Make it accessible so you can
get to what you need quickly.
Scrap-booking: How to organize
photographs, loose pieces of paper and stickers for easy
reference
To organize
sheets of stickers, photographs
and magazine cutouts put them
in three ring binders. Use clear
3-holed page protectors for the
binders to hold the materials.
Use tab divider sheets to organize
the inside of your binder by
subject or colour. Stickers won't
get damaged and you can find
the ones you want quickly. When
you scrapbook away from home,
just grab the binder you need
and take it with you. Uniform
binders line up neatly on the
shelves of a bookcase.
Tip: store
paper and card stock flat to preserve edges and corners
and prevent them from getting wrinkled or frayed. Use
stacking office trays.
