Don’t
buy Storage Boxes before you know
what you’re storing
- they turn into clutter too!
In an effort to jumpstart the organizing
process, many people purchase organizing accessories before they
confront their clutter.
But that’s the wrong approach. Never buy storage containers
such as shoe boxes or filing systems, before
you have a clear handle on what you’re dealing with. Instead,
start with the purge – be ruthless and keep only what you
really use and love. Then sort and assess what’s left.
Chances are you’ll see that you don’t need a dozen
boxes – you only need six! And you’ll know what size
and shape of container will work best for the space and items
you have. To keep your organizing system relevant for the long-term
use the “one-in, one-out” rule, in other words, never
introduce a new item without discarding an old one.
