How
to Create Boundaries in the Bedroom
Master bedrooms can often become a room for family gathering and a dumping zone
for family clutter. By creating a list of basic “Room Rules” for
everyone to follow when they are in the bedroom it will encourage you and the
whole family to respect the space.
Room Rules
- What you bring in, you take out
- Ask permission to use the space
- No food or drinks allowed
- Knock before entering
- Mom & Dad have priority in here
How to enforce the rules incorporating the
following points:
- When introducing new rules always have a family meeting
where you discuss the change and explain why this rule is
necessary
- If the rules are violated, for example, a kid’s books
and bags are dumped in the room, immediately move the items
to the child’s room and remind them of where their
things belong.
- Enforcing new rules can be stressful. However, if behavior
and expectations are inconsistent, the family will revert
back to old habits.
