How
to Rotate your Seasonal Closets
Many people bring out their items for the new season
as soon as the weather changes but are less diligent with
putting away the out-of-season items. It is more effective
to designate one bin as “seasonal” instead of
having a “summer” and a “winter” bin.
This way you know when the flip-flops and sandals come out
of the seasonal shoe bin, and that bin needs to be refilled
with winter boots.
- Toss or donate shoes that hurt your feet. If you
have worn them enough to work them in and they still aren’t
comfy, they are never going to be comfy.
- If space allows, everyday shoes should be kept
in the front hall, seasonal shoes can be stored with out-of-season
clothing (and “special” shoes (i.e. dressy or
evening shoes) can be stored in the bedroom)
- It’s ok to store out-of-season footwear outside
but seasonal clothing and coats should be stored inside in
a dry enclosed area (i.e. a spare closet or an armoire).
- Store adults and kids winter boots separately in
airtight containers.
- Clean boots thoroughly before putting them away
- Keep the shape of your boots and prevent creases
by inserting an empty paper towel roll into the boot and
storing them upright.
